The brainchild of Maneesha Panicker, the Kayal Island Retreat is one of the many Resorts in the backwater heaven of Alappuzha/Alleppey in Kerala, India. This resort is uniquely hidden in a quite island on the largest lagoon of India, the Vembanad Lake.

Through nearby the ancient port city of Kochi, this resort is located at Kakkathuruthu, the island of Crows. The only way to reach this splendid resort is through traditional rowboats. All this together gives you a feel of getting back in time, almost back to 100 years ago.

Accommodation

The Kayal Island Retreat exclusively has only two cottages. Each of these cottages is inspired by the local architecture. The materials used in building these cottages are reclaimed and recycled material. These cottages are designed keeping in mind the plush comforts of the city. These Waterfront A/C Cottages are furnished with old teak cupboards, a reading area with a desk and an en suite bath garden which are roofless open baths. Enjoy your bath in sun and rain while a gentle breeze cools you off.

Food & Dinning at Kayal Island Retreat

At Kayal Island Retreat, the experience of dining is made special with open dining spaces. This paves way to get the perfect mood and ambience for dining the traditional Kerala meals. While enjoying your meals you can also get live action of rising and falling tides as well as the fishermen casting their nets..

The food served here is a rich tribute to the local produce. The menu includes both authentic Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian dishes, guaranteed to liven up your taste buds. All this is authentically served on a banana leaf..

If you wish you can also have a cooking lesson demonstrated in the kitchen. They also, if needed get a drink of fresh toddy to relish on. As far as the tea lovers are concerned the Kayal Tea Ritual is a treat. Hot tea, black or with milk, as required, is served along with piping hot local snacks.
